No, the contact list is not done.....YET! but the thank you cards have been sent and so has the money raised for Thom Collegiate. I also included a short note with the money, which Cheryl, the secretary of the school, shortened a bit and put in the school announcements. My letter was as follows:
8 Sept 07
Dear Students of Thom Collegiate:
On July 19, 2008, the Thom Collegiate Class of 1978 had a 30 year high school reunion. The reunion was a success in many ways. One way was that we raised $420.00 in a 50/50 draw and a silent auction, which, we would like to donate to our high school to be used towards a purchase that can be enjoyed by the Thom Collegiate students of today.
Additionally, if I can offer any words of wisdom to those of you in high school now, it would be to HAVE REUNIONS and make sure you attend them. It has been said that, “it’s about the journey, not the destination”. Your high school years will be a part of that journey as will be your classmates. So, when possible, take a trip down memory lane of YOUR journey and go to your reunions. They are well worth it and a lot of fun!
Sincerely,
Kate (Toth) Mitchell
Organizer
Class of 1978 30th High School Reunion
Next Project.......THE CONTACT LIST! I will try to have it done by Christmas! (and only if anyone reads this blog will they know I said this. lol)

AFTER THE REUNION - 30 July 08
Just got back to Vancouver on Friday, July 25th. I wanted to take a moment to make a post here "after the reunion", and...
Thank everyone that came out to Thom Collegiate's 30th High School Reunion - Class of '78. I think it is safe to say that everyone had a great time. I know I certainly did. It's amazing that it was 30 years ago, we were all sitting in classrooms, together, learning the same thing, yet what different stories we were able to share with each other.
We collected everyone's information and I will be compiling it all and sending it to everyone...soon. I must admit, I have a bit of "catching up" to do in my own work, and your patience is appreciated. I also will be sending out a few thank you cards on behalf of the reunion and, therefore, hope to get to the contact info list sometime after the summer. (unless I have a sleepless night before then, I may start on it then...hey, it happens every now and again.)
Garnet Brown posted a few video clips of the reunion on youtube. I googled his username: egopotimus + youtube and was able to find them. I found myself smiling as I watched them, as they brought back memories of that night.
Thanks to Art and Bonnie Hosie for having us "diehards" over when we had to leave the Canadian Italian Club. I can't remember the last time I stayed out till 3:30 in the morning. Considering I was staying with my mom, I betcha she was having her own dejavu's when she heard the door open in the wee hours of the morning.
Many thanks to those that participated in the evening as well. Orville Chubb (toast to the grads), Reg Read (toast to the teachers), Ron Stettner for performing the same song he did for us at our graduation, and Mark Zimmerman for being our Emcee.
And, I think it was fabulous that we had Mrs. Ann Van Vliet, and Mr. Peter Chernoff and his wife, Irene, there to share the evening with us.
It was great to see Desiree (Lafayette) Reis, Janice Mah, Kelly Frizzell, and Twila (Kennedy) Forsyth out that morning to help Ernie and I with decorations. Desiree, Twila, Mark, and Dawn (Dolan) also helped Ernie in trying to locate everyone. It was a big job and the help was certainly appreciated.
Twila, my gawd girl, you were an absolute godsend. We couldn't have asked for a better volunteer. And, please make sure you ROYALLY thank that husband of yours for us for all those MP3 cd's he made of hours and hours of 70's music. There were enough made that we could give some to the volunteers, some went as door prizes and some on the silent auction table. Wow! What a nice addition to our evening.
My family was awesome in helping out with this reunion. It was my mom's idea for the 50/50 draw, and when Twila said she had a Thom jacket she would give to us as a door prize, my mom also suggested a silent auction. She also donated the bottle of wine for a door prize and the Coor's TShirt for the silent auction. She was great too, for bouncing ideas off of. My brothers Chuck and Wendell were also a great help. Chuck, with his donations to the silent auction including a Thom golf shirt, not to mention all the questions I asked him being he was a teacher at Thom for 18 years, including info on getting a list of teachers, And, my brother Wendell, for all his running around town in helping us to initially find a venue. I sent him to a few places, getting him to take pix and email them to me...poor guy. "No, I don't like that one. Can you go to.....what do you think of ...... One brother, a teacher at Thom, and the other brother in the bar business. Could a girl be so lucky when it came to planning this reunion! Hey, my other brother, Alan, is in the construction business....anyone care to front the money to build a place for our 40th? lol
Although the initial venue was the Murphy's at the Regina Court and Fitness Club, we unfortunately had to switch venues. Carm Carteri did not leave us out in the cold though, as he was so kind to book the Italian Club for us. He also donated items to our silent auction: the Sask Roughrider windbreaker, the Sask Roughrider baseball cap, and the Regina Court and Fitness Club Golf shirt. We also had a tshirt from him as well that went as a door prize.
All in all, we raised over 400 dollars between the 50/50 draw and the silent auction with proceeds going to the Thom SRC/Alumini. I will be sending in a money order to Cheryl, the secretary of Thom, who, I have to say, was a tremendous help as well. If any of you were at the reunion, are in Regina, and have a chance, please stop by the school to thank Cheryl for me/us. She is one of the most helpful, beautiful people I have ever have the honor to meet.
And, finally, I must say many thanks to Ernie Berg. We spent alot of hours on the phone trying to pull this reunion off, alot of planning, and I am grateful for all our experiences, before, during the reunion, and after. It was a pleasure having the opportunity to organize this reunion with you.
Now, Ernie and I have spoke since, and our sentiments 2 weeks before the reunion about planning a 40th, would have been, "Are you nuts? Do you know how frustrating this is? Someone else can do it!" It's amazing how the success of an event, seeing everyone that you haven't seen in years, and seeing everyone have such a great time, makes you think twice...or forget about the negative. Now, that's not to say that we are committing to this now, 10 years is a ways off, but stayed tuned to this blog, and remember, I have all your contact info now. YOU WILL BE ASKED TO HELP THIS TIME! Additionally, make sure you let Ernie or I know if your contact info changes so if there is a 50th school reunion in 5 years, or if we do plan a 40th, it will be easier to find people.
And spread the word...let those know that didn't come what a good time they missed and hopefully we will see them at the 40th...ok, there's a good chance there will be a 40th, but again, not wanting to make a commitment right now, but do check back in a few years. (smile) Additionally, those that didn't make it, but would like to be put on the contact list, please have them email me at healthconscious@shaw.ca with name, (including maiden name if applicable) address, phone number, email address, etc. so I can include them too.
Again, it was great seeing everyone. And, to those of you that couldn't make it....WE HAD A BLAST! Wish you were there!

Updates
Wow! Seems like awhile since I've posted here, but it's not because I haven't been doing anything! Honest! :-)
I got this notion in my head one night when I was listening to a 70's music radio show one Saturday night. I started to think of bars, clubs, etc where a radio station has broadcasted live from....(fill in the blank). 70's music show? radio station? a 30th high school reunion from 1978? could it be possible? how cool (a 70's word, but I still use it) would that be. Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained, so why not try? It took a bit of research on my part to find out who to contact, etc., but I finally did get to speak to someone. Let's just say, we are still without music for that night! lol At least I tried though.
Mark Zimmerman will be our MC for that Night. THANK YOU SO MUCH MARK! I am confident we have ourselves a great MC! (no pressure, my dear)
Anyone care to make a toast to the teachers?
and we also need someone to do a toast to the grads.
I haven't heard from any of the talented people from our class yet. Don't tell me that out of 221 grads we don't have anyone that can sing, dance, write a poem, etc? It would be great if you could share those talents with us at the reunion! Now is not the time to be shy!
Please check the list below of the grads that we still need to contact. I have edited the list as of today. It has gotten smaller but there are still grads that need to be found. Please, everyone, please donate an hour or two of your time and help us find these grads. It would be a shame if some people don't get the chance to find out about it.
5-1/2 weeks to go to our reunion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As Ernie said in an email he sent to some of us...."I understand that there maybe some doubling up but I would sooner have it that way than not at all." and, "some of these have been contacted but I haven't got information back about them."
Let's see if we can get a WAY SHORTER LIST in the next few weeks. And please contact Ernie with your findings!!!!!
Additionally, I have sent invites to a majority of the teachers to invite them as well. However, there is also a list of teachers that have not been notified. If anyone knows their whereabouts, please let me know. The teachers that need to be contacted are:
Mr. Eberhard – math, science, Mrs. K Ferguson – Home Ec. Mr. Kembel – math, Mr. Kjeldsen – electricity, electronics, Mrs. Klinck – PE , French, Mrs. Landy – PE, Math, Mrs. Lewis – English, Mrs. Lough – English, Mr. Mushka – history, Mr. Phillips - English, Mr. Sametz – Woodwork, Mr. Saucier – history, Miss Sauder – commercial, Mr. Skulmoski – math, Mr. KB Smith – math, Mr. Stewart – English, music, Mr. Strass – science, chemistry, Mrs. Sulma – Home Ec, Mrs. Townsend – English, Mr. Watson – math, Mrs. Exner – secretary
Many thanks to all those that have volunteered and are helping us to locate those that have still not been contacted. Ernie and I would not be able to pull this reunion together without your help. And, of course, there is no such thing as TOO MUCH HELP! (wink, wink, hint, hint)

We Are Switching Venues
Yep! We are moving to one of the halls at the
I was in Regina this past weekend for my mom's surprise 70th birthday so I had a chance to speak to Carm at the Fitness Club and to Anna at the Italian Club. When all was said and done, it just made more sense to move to the Italian Club. It's bigger, more spacious, and they offer more options like a microphone and a projector screen! However, we need to supply our own music system. Anyone care to volunteer to bring one?
I also went to Thom Collegiate on Friday with a list of teachers in hand. The staff was very accomodating in helping me find teachers that I still had missing info for. Additionally, it helps to have a brother that taught at Thom for 18 years to help me fill in a couple of other "blanks". Many thanks to Cheryl and Stella of Thom Collegiate, and to my big brother, Chuck. I worked on invites to the teachers when I was on the plane and will have them out this week.
My mom was telling me a few of her friends approached her in that they saw an advertisement in the Regina Coffee News with the name Kate (Toth) Mitchell. That tells me people are seeing the advertisement, which is really good news. We still have yet to find MORE people. Anyone that can offer a couple of hours of their time to help do so, please contact Ernie. Ernie's job is to go thru the class list and contact people and I am taking care of the logistics and the advertising, but help is gratefully appreciated.
When I was saying goodbye to my family this morning, I was also saying, "see you in a couple of months", which means this reunion is just a couple of months away! I'm getting really excited about seeing everyone. We are getting lots of yes's and that's great, but please, send in your cheques with your self addressed stamped envelopes. Tickets will have the Italian Club's address on it, but in the meantime, if you want to make a note of it, it is:
The Canadian Italian Club
2148 Connaught Street
Regina, Sask.
S4T 4T9
(a couple of blocks west of the Lewvan off of 13th Avenue)
We will be in Hall B.
We are still meeting for 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m.

WE ARE NO LONGER HAVING THE REUNION AT MURPHY'S BAR IN THE REGINA COURT AND FITNESS CLUB.

HOW TO GET TICKETS
With this reunion on my mind, and trying to get things to come together, I would feel soooo much better when we start selling tickets and I can see the numbers increase on who's attending. I mean, what's a class reunion without the graduating class, huh?
HOW TO GET TICKETS....
Tickets are going to be $25.00 per person and will include a dinner as well as to cover the cost of advertising, incidentals, etc. Even tho' the tickets won't be ready for a couple of weeks (first/second week of April)
Please feel free to start mailing in your cheque made out to Kate Mitchell WITH a self addressed stamped envelope.I will mail out the ticket(s) as soon as they are in my hot little hands.
SEND YOUR CHEQUE OR MONEY ORDER MADE OUT TO KATE MITCHELL AND YOUR SELF ADDRESSED STAMPED ENVELOPE TO:
Thom Collegiate 30th Reunion
#330-6540 East Hastings Street.
Burnaby, BC
V5B 4Z5
This is a post office box that is good until beginning July. Therefore, it doesn't matter where you post the address, but, FYI, I'm leaving for Regina around 6-7 July
There is NO Thom78reunion bank account, and it's way too much paperwork to create one for 2 months. And, it's also a hassle to try to cash cheques made out to Thom78reunion. Even if my bank were to accept them, your bank may decline. If that happens, I have to do a check as to which bank declined which cheque, and IT WILL TAKE TOO MUCH TIME and EFFORT. So, PLEASE, make the cheques out to me.

THIS IS IMPORTANT!
PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHEQUES AND MONEY ORDERS ARE MADE OUT TO ME, KATE MITCHELL!!!
so, start spreading the address around, and let's get some tickets sold so we can have a great class reunion (and I can breathe a sigh of relief) The more the merrier, right!!
And, please remember the self addressed stamped envelope.
(I just think it would be nicer to give the extra money to the Thom alumini rather than spending it on postage. TY!)
Thanks everyone for your understanding and cooperation!!!!

Contacting People
I spoke to Ernie last night and he seems to be getting ahold of a few people but they of course, can't commit right there being most have to check with work and spouses as to when it would be feasible to take holidays.
Nice to see a few comments on here and that the Leader Post captured a few people's attention. This Saturday will be the last Leader Post ad to be run. Hi to Beth and Danica! I also got an email from Twila Forsyth, Kerry Lyon, and Joyce DuBois.
I still have a few places I'm going to post advertisements and I should be talking to the venue soon about a menu. Then ticket prices can be decided (again, including advertising, print costs for tickets, etc) and we will need to do advanced sales to get the money for a deposit on the food. Therefore, I'll be asking for money to be sent in with a self addressed stamped envelope for us to mail back the tickets. Just to give you all a heads up on the plan!
We are down to 5 months now! Time is just flying by. 5 more months to find a lot more grads. Ernie is to send me the list of who he spoke to. If there is anyone else that can help with finding people, please contact us. Thanks to those that have said that they will. You will be hearing from me very soon, as soon as Ernie sends me the list...hint, hint, Ernie.
